Clarksville, TN – A four legged member of the Montgomery County Sheriff 's Office now has additional protection while serving the community after receiving a bullet and stab resistant vest valued at $1,800 through a charitable donation.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, K9 Paco recently received the protective body armor through the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc., which provides safety equipment to law enforcement dogs across the United States.
The custom fitted vest is embroidered with the message, "Honoring those who served and sacrificed."
New Protection for a Local K9 Officer
The donated equipment is designed to help protect Paco against potentially dangerous encounters while assisting deputies with law enforcement duties throughout Montgomery County, including the Clarksville area.
The organization says its protective vests are manufactured in the United States, certified by the National Institute of Justice and designed specifically for working police dogs.
Each vest weighs approximately 4 to 5 pounds and includes a five year warranty.
The donation comes through a nationwide effort to equip law enforcement K9s with protective gear that agencies might otherwise struggle to obtain.
National Program Has Donated Thousands of Vests
Founded in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s Inc. reports providing more than 6,677 protective vests valued at approximately $6.9 million to law enforcement dogs across all 50 states.
The organization estimates approximately 30,000 law enforcement K9s serve nationwide.
Eligible dogs must generally be at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with a law enforcement or related agency.
A $1,050 charitable contribution can sponsor one protective vest, according to the nonprofit.

For Paco, the donation means another layer of protection as he continues serving alongside Montgomery County deputies.
