Sioux Falls, SD – Southeastern South Dakota residents face several days of dreary weather beginning Tuesday, Nov. 3, as expanding rainfall and strong northwest winds bring gusts potentially reaching 45 mph Wednesday, along with the possibility of localized water ponding.
According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, drizzle and scattered showers will continue Tuesday before rainfall becomes more widespread Tuesday night and persists through Thursday.
Wind Gusts Could Reach 45 MPH Wednesday Tuesday's forecast calls for drizzle across western portions of the region and scattered showers farther east.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to range from 45 to 55 degrees, with rain coverage increasing overnight.
By Wednesday, Nov. 4, widespread showers will affect much of the region as northwest winds strengthen.
The National Weather Service forecasts wind gusts generally reaching 30 to 45 mph through Wednesday, with the strongest gusts expected across south central South Dakota.
Wednesday's afternoon highs will range from 44 to 49 degrees, creating chilly and blustery conditions for residents traveling or working outdoors.
Rainfall Could Cause Localized Ponding Additional rainfall totals through Thursday evening are expected to remain below 1 inch across the forecast area.
The highest rainfall amounts are anticipated east of Interstate 29, where repeated showers could lead to localized ponding of water.
Although significant flooding problems are not currently expected, water may collect in low lying areas and locations with poor drainage.
Wednesday night will remain wet, with widespread showers and overnight temperatures dropping between 34 and 41 degrees.
Rain is expected to gradually end Thursday, Nov. 5, as the prolonged unsettled weather pattern moves out.
Residents across Sioux Falls, Brookings, Mitchell and surrounding communities should prepare for wet roadways and gusty conditions.
Drivers traveling along Interstate 29 and Interstate 90 should remain alert for reduced visibility, standing water and crosswinds, particularly Wednesday.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated forecasts as rainfall continues through midweek.
