Sioux Falls, SD – Residents across southeastern South Dakota should prepare for changing weather conditions this week, with scattered thunderstorms possible Wednesday, a brief return to sunshine Thursday and additional rain chances heading into Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 31.
According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, patchy fog could develop through midmorning Tuesday, Oct. 27, before temperatures return to near seasonal averages during the afternoon. Mostly cloudy skies are expected, with some clearing possible farther west and highs ranging from 54 to 61 degrees.
Wednesday Brings Showers and Possible Thunderstorms
Wednesday, Oct. 28, will bring warmer temperatures, with afternoon highs between 63 and 73 degrees and overnight lows ranging from 41 to 51 degrees.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon and early evening, particularly near and east of Interstate 29.
Drivers traveling through Sioux Falls and surrounding communities should remain alert for wet pavement, reduced visibility and changing road conditions where showers develop.
Thursday Offers a Break Before Halloween Rain Chances
Thursday, Oct. 29, is expected to provide a break from the unsettled weather, with mostly sunny skies and highs between 58 and 68 degrees.
However, rain chances return Friday, Oct. 30, with temperatures remaining relatively mild.
By Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 31, additional rainfall remains possible across the region. Forecast highs range from 61 to 67 degrees, with overnight lows between 46 and 53 degrees.
Families planning trick or treating, outdoor celebrations or Halloween travel should monitor updated forecasts as Saturday approaches.
The National Weather Service indicates temperatures will generally remain warmer than average through the weekend, despite periodic rain chances.
The timing and coverage of Saturday's rainfall remain uncertain, meaning Halloween activities are not necessarily expected to be washed out.
