Rock Hill, SC – Deputies and K 9 teams were searching an area of Rock Hill Thursday afternoon after a person allegedly ran from a traffic stop, prompting police activity near Celanese Road and Auto Mall Parkway in York County, south of the Charlotte metro area.
According to the York County Sheriff ’s Office , deputies were in the area around 2 p.m. searching for Devan Laurise Johnson , who allegedly jumped and ran from a traffic stop.
The sheriff’s office said Johnson was last seen wearing light colored jeans and a light colored shirt. Authorities also said he has active family court bench warrants.
Officials asked anyone who sees Johnson to call 911 .
The photograph released with the sheriff’s office alert is from a 2023 arrest , meaning his current appearance may differ from the image being circulated Thursday.
The sheriff’s office did not provide additional information in the alert about the circumstances of the original traffic stop, where Johnson was last seen after allegedly running, or whether authorities believe he is armed.
Motorists and residents near Celanese Road and Auto Mall Parkway could encounter an increased law enforcement presence while the search continues. The sheriff’s office specifically reported deputies and K 9 units operating in the area.
Residents should avoid interfering with the police search and contact authorities rather than approaching the person if they believe they have spotted him.
This remains an active situation based on the sheriff’s office afternoon notice. Additional details may be released as the search develops.
