Ridgeway, South Carolina – The Fairfield County Sheriff 's Office continues to investigate a shooting that occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, along Smallwood Road in the Ridgeway area. Deputies were initially called to the scene following reports of shots being fired, which triggered a multi day investigation into the events that transpired at a local private residence.
According to the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, 37 year old Brandon T. Stukes of Bishopville, South Carolina, allegedly turned himself in to authorities on Friday, September 11, 2026. Stukes has been charged with Breach of Peace, High and Aggravated in Nature, in connection with the incident. Officials state the confrontation began when Stukes stopped his vehicle in a driveway he reportedly mistook for being abandoned.
The investigation further determined that Stukes was approached by a property owner who instructed him to leave the premises. As the two individuals exchanged words and Stukes prepared to depart, he allegedly fired two rounds from his vehicle, which he later claimed were shot into the air. The property owner, believing he was being targeted, returned fire with three rounds, according to officials.
Investigators recovered fired cartridge casings at the scene that matched the accounts provided by those involved. An independent witness corroborated the sequence of events, confirming that two shots were fired initially, followed by three additional rounds. No injuries were reported during the encounter. Those with further information are encouraged to contact Investigator Malcolm Henry at 803 635 4141, referencing case number 26 004442.
