Greenville, SC – Residents across portions of North Carolina and South Carolina are waking up to showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms Friday, Nov. 6, before a dramatic improvement in weather brings sunshine and afternoon temperatures approaching 80 degrees in some communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville Spartanburg, a slow moving cold front is pushing through the western Carolinas early Friday, producing scattered showers across the western Piedmont of North Carolina and northern Upstate South Carolina.
An isolated thunderstorm is also possible before the system moves farther east.
Morning rain should give way to a warmer afternoon.
Forecasters expect showers to move northeast and away from the region by approximately noon Friday, allowing skies to clear and sunshine to return.
Temperatures are forecast to climb 5 to 10 degrees above seasonal averages, with afternoon highs ranging from the 60s in higher mountain elevations to the middle and upper 70s across many lower elevation communities.
Areas around Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Charlotte and surrounding communities could experience a noticeably warmer afternoon once the clouds clear.
Some locations across the southern portion of the forecast area could approach 80 degrees.
Drivers should remain alert during the morning commute.
Periods of rain could leave roads wet across portions of Interstate 85, Interstate 26 and surrounding highways before conditions improve later Friday.
Although isolated thunderstorms are possible, the National Weather Service graphics do not indicate a widespread severe weather outbreak.
Looking ahead, the weekend will bring a gradual return toward more seasonable temperatures as afternoon highs cool closer to early November averages.
Residents planning outdoor activities Friday afternoon should see improving conditions as the front moves away.
