Greenville County, SC – A dogfighting investigation in the Greenville area has resulted in 24 criminal charges against a 44 year old man after authorities seized 10 dogs and allegedly discovered illegal narcotics and a firearm during a search Wednesday.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff 's Office, investigators filed additional charges against Curtryn Jemario Stewart following the execution of a search warrant at a property located at 280 Grey Road.
Authorities say evidence collected during the search indicated Stewart allegedly owned and maintained dogs for the purpose of illegal dogfighting.
Investigators recovered 10 dogs from the property, along with suspected illegal narcotics and at least one firearm.
The sheriff's office reported that the animals showed signs of scarring, malnourishment and other physical conditions consistent with dogfighting.
All 10 dogs were seized and placed in the care of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ASPCA .
Stewart now faces 24 criminal charges, including 10 counts of ill treatment of animals and 10 counts under South Carolina's Animal Fighting or Baiting Act.
Additional charges include possession of fentanyl, first offense; unlawfully placing a child at risk; and two firearm possession offenses related to prior criminal convictions.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, ASPCA, Animal Control and Codes Enforcement.
Officials said the additional charges resulted from evidence collected during Wednesday's search warrant.
The sheriff's office has not publicly detailed the condition of each individual animal or provided information about possible future adoption or rehabilitation arrangements.
The case remains a significant animal cruelty investigation involving allegations of organized dogfighting and additional criminal activity.
The charges are allegations, and Stewart is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
