Effingham, SC – A suspect was taken to an area hospital after a deputy involved shooting in Florence County early Monday morning, while authorities say no deputies were injured.
According to the Florence County Sheriff 's Office, deputies were involved in the shooting Monday morning on Fulton Avenue in Effingham, a community south of Florence, South Carolina.
The Sheriff's Office said the suspect was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Officials did not immediately disclose the person's identity, condition or what allegedly occurred before deputies became involved in the shooting.
No Florence County Sheriff's Office deputies were injured during the incident, according to the agency's statement released Monday morning.
Details surrounding the shooting remained limited shortly after the announcement. Authorities did not immediately say how many deputies were involved, whether the suspect allegedly had a weapon or what prompted the encounter.
Florence County Sheriff T.J. Joye has requested that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, commonly known as SLED, investigate the incident.
The request places the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting with the state agency. The Sheriff's Office directed additional questions about the case to SLED.
