Darlington, SC – Sheriff Michael August confirmed that Taevon Lyde was taken into custody on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after turning himself in to the Darlington County Sheriff 's Office. Lyde had been sought on a warrant for domestic violence in the second degree.
The charges stem from an incident on March 27, 2026, when deputies responded to a home on the 200 block of South Sansbury Road. According to the sheriff's office , a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation. Investigators allege that Lyde grabbed the victim by the arm and used a firearm to break glass within the residence before seizing the victim's car keys and throwing them into a nearby ditch as he fled the scene.
A warrant for his arrest was obtained on April 22, 2026. The sheriff's office launched a "Wanted Wednesday" social media campaign to assist in locating him, which ultimately led to the suspect surrendering himself to authorities on Thursday morning.
Lyde is currently being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center while he waits for a bond hearing. The department noted that this is an active investigation and reminded the community that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
