Columbia, SC – South Carolina’s October warmth is favored to continue through Oct. 12 18, with temperatures leaning above normal even for a state where mild to warm fall weather is typical. The week also carries a wetter than normal signal.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across South Carolina. Above normal precipitation is also favored during the seven day period.
For Columbia, Charleston and much of the Midlands and Lowcountry, the outlook suggests the seasonal transition toward cooler weather may remain gradual. Above normal does not necessarily mean exceptional heat; it means the week is favored to average warmer than South Carolina typically does in mid October.
The Upstate could still experience a stronger autumn feel at night. Cooler mornings remain possible even during a warmer than normal week, particularly in inland and higher elevation locations.
Rain opportunities could break up the warmth. The CPC outlook favors more precipitation than normal for Oct. 12 18, but it does not provide rainfall totals, identify individual weather systems or specify which days could be wet.
Residents should therefore expect a warm October pattern with a wetter lean , rather than uninterrupted sunshine or continuous rain.
Unlike farther north, frost is not a central part of the statewide outlook at this range. Any unusually cool nights in colder Upstate locations would need to emerge in shorter range forecasts.
As Oct. 12 approaches, National Weather Service forecasts should provide a clearer picture of daily temperatures and when South Carolina’s best rain chances could arrive.
