COLUMBIA, SC – Summerlike warmth is set to return to South Carolina's Midlands this week, with temperatures climbing to 89 degrees Wednesday, Oct. 14. The warming trend follows a damp weekend and could make afternoon outdoor activities uncomfortable across the Columbia area.
According to the National Weather Service forecast for Columbia, Wednesday will bring sunshine and a high near 89 degrees, approximately 12 degrees warmer than Sunday's expected high of 77. Residents can expect increasingly warm afternoons as the workweek progresses.
Before the warmer weather arrives, showers remain possible Sunday, Oct. 11, particularly before 11 a.m. The forecast indicates a 40% chance of precipitation, with southwest winds of 8 to 14 mph and gusts reaching 24 mph.
Drivers traveling through Columbia and surrounding Lexington and Richland counties should remain alert for wet pavement during morning showers. Conditions should improve as skies become partly sunny during the afternoon.
