South Carolina — Headlights disappear into thick gray fog as visibility drops dramatically around Charleston, creating potentially hazardous conditions for morning drivers. However, the Lowcountry's November weather is preparing for a noticeable improvement, with sunshine and temperatures reaching the lower 70s.
According to the National Weather Service, Charleston Executive Airport reported visibility of just 0.15 miles early Saturday morning.
Temperatures stood near 63 degrees, with humidity reaching 100% and calm winds.
Those conditions can support fog formation, particularly near waterways, marshes and low lying areas.
Fog Creates Morning Travel Concerns The National Weather Service expects patchy fog before 8 a.m., followed by partly sunny skies and afternoon temperatures near 72 degrees.
Although the fog is expected to improve, drivers should remain cautious wherever visibility stays reduced.
Motorists traveling Interstate 26, Interstate 526 and U.S. Highway 17 could encounter localized visibility changes.
Use low beam headlights, increase following distances and avoid sudden braking when entering fog.
Conditions should improve as the morning progresses.
North winds of 6 to 9 mph accompany Saturday's gradual clearing.
Sunday Brings Sunshine and Cooler Temperatures The weather pattern becomes considerably more favorable Sunday.
Sunny skies should dominate, with temperatures reaching approximately 68 degrees.
Northeast winds of 3 to 8 mph will accompany the cooler afternoon.
Sunday night brings mostly clear skies and temperatures near 53 degrees.
For residents planning outdoor activities, the combination of sunshine and mild temperatures should provide comfortable conditions.
The drier weather also creates an opportunity to finish yard cleanup as autumn leaves continue falling.
Monday and Tuesday Bring a Warm November Stretch Monday begins another stretch of pleasant weather, with sunshine and highs near 73 degrees.
Temperatures fall toward 55 degrees Monday night.
Tuesday continues the pattern, bringing mostly sunny skies and another high near 73 degrees.
That represents a 20 degree difference between the coolest nighttime temperatures and warmer afternoon readings.
While the temperature changes may feel noticeable, freezing conditions are not expected.
No snow, ice or tornado threat is identified in Charleston's supplied five day outlook.
