CHARLESTON, SC – Residents across coastal South Carolina and southeast Georgia are preparing for a dramatic temperature change as a strong cold front approaches Friday, October 16. Afternoon highs could reach 89 degrees before gusty winds and sharply cooler temperatures arrive, sending some communities into the lower 40s by Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, another unusually warm day is expected Friday before a strong cold front moves through the region late Friday night into Saturday morning.
Friday afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach 84 to 89 degrees , with mostly clear skies across much of the region.
Communities including Charleston, Summerville, Beaufort and surrounding Lowcountry areas will experience the warm conditions before the approaching front brings a noticeable change.
Overnight Friday, temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 50s to middle 60s as the front approaches.
Saturday will bring a sharp cooldown, with afternoon highs reaching only 65 to 72 degrees.
That represents a potential drop of roughly 15 to 20 degrees in daytime highs compared with Friday.
Isolated showers are possible Saturday morning as the front moves through, although widespread rainfall is not the primary concern.
Gusty winds will accompany the cooler air, potentially making outdoor conditions feel noticeably different from Friday's summerlike warmth.
The coldest conditions arrive Saturday night into early Sunday, when temperatures are forecast to drop between 43 and 51 degrees across the region.
Residents planning early morning outdoor activities Sunday should prepare for chilly conditions, particularly in inland communities.
Sunday afternoon will remain cooler than Friday, with mostly clear skies and highs ranging from 62 to 67 degrees.
The sudden change marks a significant shift toward fall weather across the South Carolina Lowcountry and neighboring southeast Georgia.
