Bonneau, S.C. – Berkeley County officials and local public safety partners officially marked the opening of the new North Berkeley Public Safety Campus this past Friday. The 16,800 square foot facility, located at 1817 Main Street, is designed to enhance emergency response capabilities throughout the northern region of the county.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff 's Office, the new campus brings multiple critical agencies together under one roof, including the North Berkeley Fire District , Berkeley County Emergency Medical Services, and a dedicated sheriff's office substation. This collaboration is intended to provide a more centralized location for first responders, helping to reduce response times as the county's population continues to grow.
"This new North Berkeley Public Safety Campus is a major investment in the safety of our citizens and in the future of Berkeley County," Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said. "As our county continues to grow, we have to make sure our resources grow with it."
The new facility replaces a smaller district office that previously operated from a residential property in the Alvin area. While deputies will continue to prioritize active patrolling rather than remaining stationary, the new substation offers a centralized hub for personnel to conduct administrative tasks, file reports, and meet with community members.
Beyond traditional law enforcement and emergency response, the campus also strengthens the county's maritime safety efforts. A large marine patrol vessel will now be housed at the site, providing quick access to Lake Moultrie and the northern portion of the Santee River. By positioning the boat in northern Berkeley County, officials believe marine patrol personnel can deploy more efficiently for search and rescue operations and water related emergencies.
