BISHOPVILLE, S.C. Two 17 year old males are in custody following an armed carjacking and high speed chase that began at a grocery store in Bishopville.
Local law enforcement reported that the suspects approached a victim at a grocery store parking lot on Thursday afternoon. One of the individuals brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s vehicle, a sedan, before both suspects fled the scene.
Shortly after the incident was reported, deputies spotted the vehicle traveling at high speeds on the highway. A multi county pursuit ensued, involving officers from several local agencies. The suspects attempted to evade police by weaving through traffic before eventually losing control of the vehicle and driving into a ditch.
Both suspects were apprehended at the scene without further incident. No injuries were reported to bystanders or the original carjacking victim. The suspects remain in juvenile custody, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities determine if they were involved in any other recent criminal activities in the area.
