Providence, RI – Heavy overnight rain and developing fog could create difficult driving conditions across Providence late Sunday, Oct. 11, into Monday morning. Wet roads and reduced visibility may affect travelers as the Columbus Day holiday begins.
According to the National Weather Service, rain chances reach 100% Sunday night, with heavy rainfall possible before 4 a.m. Monday. Forecasters expect between three quarters and 1 inch of precipitation, while patchy fog could develop overnight.
The wet conditions could affect Providence and surrounding communities in Providence County, particularly drivers traveling along Interstate 95 and Interstate 195.
Motorists should prepare for slippery pavement, reduced visibility and possible standing water during heavier downpours.
Sunday begins relatively quiet, with partly sunny skies and temperatures reaching 63 degrees. A 30% chance of showers develops mainly after 4 p.m.
Rain becomes more widespread Sunday night as temperatures fall near 55 degrees. Northeast winds remain light, generally between 3 and 7 mph.
Monday, Oct. 12, brings lingering patchy fog before 9 a.m., potentially affecting early holiday travel.
Clouds should gradually break later Monday, allowing some sunshine as temperatures climb near 68 degrees.
However, unsettled weather could return Tuesday night.

Tuesday, Oct. 13, brings mostly cloudy skies and highs near 63 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms become possible during the evening, with precipitation chances reaching 50%.
Wednesday, Oct. 14, features a 30% chance of morning showers before partly sunny skies develop. Highs reach 70 degrees.
Thursday, Oct. 15, turns sunny and cooler, with highs near 62 degrees.
Friday, Oct. 16, brings partly sunny skies, highs near 61 degrees and a 30% chance of showers.
Saturday, Oct. 17, stays partly sunny and breezy, with highs near 59 degrees and gusts reaching 24 mph.
