Providence, RI – A mild November afternoon could soon give way to biting morning temperatures across Rhode Island. After several days near 60 degrees, Providence faces a sharp cooldown, returning rain chances and temperatures approaching freezing by Friday night, Nov. 13.
The developing pattern also comes as early season snow opportunities emerge across colder portions of New England, raising questions about when the first flakes might reach southern New England.
According to the National Weather Service, Providence will experience relatively mild conditions through Veterans Day before temperatures decline later this week.
60 Degree Warmth Holds Through Wednesday
Sunday brings improving conditions, with sunshine developing and afternoon temperatures reaching approximately 60 degrees.
West winds could gust to 24 mph, creating a breezy afternoon despite the warmer temperatures.
Monday will feature increasing clouds and highs near 58 degrees.
Tuesday remains mostly sunny, with temperatures reaching approximately 56 degrees.
Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, brings another pleasant afternoon with sunshine and highs near 60 degrees.
However, the warmer stretch will not last.
Rain Returns as Temperatures Begin Falling
Thursday marks the beginning of a cooler pattern, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 55 degrees.
Rain chances increase Thursday night to 50%, with temperatures falling near 35 degrees.
Friday looks considerably colder, with highs around 48 degrees and another 50% chance of rain.
North winds near 14 mph could make conditions feel especially chilly.
By Friday night, temperatures are forecast to fall near 32 degrees, bringing Providence close to the freezing mark.
Could Rhode Island See Its First Snowflakes?
Early season snow opportunities are developing across portions of northern New England.
NOAA's national weather discussion indicates that higher elevations of interior northern New England could experience wet snow mixing with rain.
However, Providence's current official forecast continues to indicate rain rather than snow.
The combination of colder temperatures and precipitation later this week warrants monitoring, but snow is not currently predicted for Providence.
No accumulating snowfall is indicated in the supplied forecast.
