Stroudsburg, PA – The Pocono Mountains could see an early opportunity for snow ahead of Thanksgiving as colder air moves toward northeastern Pennsylvania late next week, potentially bringing rain and snow to portions of the region Thursday night, Nov. 12, into Friday, Nov. 13.
According to National Weather Service forecasts supplied Saturday, Nov. 7, parts of Pennsylvania and neighboring New York face colder temperatures and mixed precipitation chances late next week. While the available forecasts do not confirm snowfall specifically for the Poconos, the developing pattern could support wintry precipitation in some higher elevation communities.
Colder Weather Arrives Before Thanksgiving
With Thanksgiving approaching Thursday, Nov. 26, the potential for early season snow is becoming an important consideration for residents and visitors across northeastern Pennsylvania.
Temperatures across the broader region are expected to remain relatively mild early in the week before colder air arrives.
In nearby southern New York, Binghamton could see overnight temperatures fall to around 31 degrees Thursday night, with a 40% chance of rain and snow.
The colder pattern could also influence conditions across the Pocono Mountains, where elevation can play an important role in determining precipitation type.
Pocono Communities Could See Wintry Conditions
Communities including Mount Pocono, Tobyhanna, Stroudsburg, Honesdale and Jim Thorpe should monitor the developing forecast.
Higher elevations may have a better opportunity for wet snow if precipitation arrives while temperatures are sufficiently cold.
However, snowfall probabilities and accumulation amounts have not been established for these individual communities.
Could Snow Affect Travel?
Even limited wintry precipitation could create localized travel concerns if road temperatures fall below freezing.
Drivers traveling Interstate 80, Interstate 380 and Route 611 should pay attention to changing conditions, especially during overnight and early morning hours.
At this stage, no significant snowfall accumulation is established by the available forecast information.
Residents and travelers should continue monitoring National Weather Service updates as the potential for early season snow becomes clearer ahead of Thanksgiving.
