STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — A chilly start to November will quickly give way to much milder weather across central Pennsylvania, with State College climbing from the upper 30s early Sunday to around 70 degrees Wednesday before a wetter period develops Thursday and Friday.
State College Regional Airport was reporting 37 degrees early Sunday, Nov. 1 . The National Weather Service forecast calls for patchy fog during the morning, followed by partly sunny skies and a high near 62. Temperatures fall back to around 39 Sunday night before a steady warmup begins.
70° Warmth Builds by Wednesday Monday reaches around 66 degrees under partly sunny skies, followed by a low near 40 Monday night.
Tuesday turns mostly sunny with a high near 69. Tuesday night stays considerably milder near 46 before Wednesday climbs to approximately 70 degrees under partly sunny skies.
That gives State College a notable early November temperature swing: from 37 degrees Sunday morning to around 70 Wednesday afternoon .
The pattern also fits NOAA’s broader Mid Atlantic outlook, which favors a warm first half of November and keeps colder, more sustained winterlike conditions from becoming the dominant regional story through Nov. 14.
Rain Returns Nov. 4–6 The weather begins changing Wednesday night.
A 40% chance of showers develops after 1 a.m., with temperatures remaining mild near 53. Thursday becomes the wettest day in the current forecast, with showers likely and a 70% precipitation chance while the high reaches around 68.
Rain remains likely Thursday night at 60%, followed by another 50% shower chance Friday and a high near 66. Friday night carries a 40% rain chance before Saturday trends mostly cloudy and cooler near 62.
The late week rain is a meaningful local story, but precipitation becomes less useful as the extended range headline. NOAA’s Nov. 8–14 guidance places much of the Mid Atlantic closer to near normal precipitation , meaning there is no strong wet or dry signal to force into the second week story.
Warm First Half of November Remains the Larger Story For State College, temperature remains the stronger extended range signal.
The immediate forecast already shows the transition: 62 Sunday, 66 Monday, 69 Tuesday and 70 Wednesday , followed by rain but continued mild highs in the upper 60s Thursday and Friday.
That does not mean cold fronts, frosty nights or an isolated early season snow event are impossible later in November. It means the average temperature pattern through Nov. 14 continues to favor the warm side.
As Thanksgiving and holiday travel season approach, the larger question for central Pennsylvania is increasingly straightforward: when will the first sustained taste of winter finally arrive?
