Pittsburgh, PA – The first snowflakes of the season could make an appearance across Pittsburgh on Friday, Nov. 13, as a sharp temperature change brings colder air, rain and the possibility of early season snow to western Pennsylvania.
After temperatures climb into the lower 60s Tuesday, Pittsburgh could experience a 32 degree difference between its warmest afternoon and the coldest temperatures expected by Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, Friday's forecast now explicitly includes a chance of rain and snow, marking a notable shift toward winterlike conditions.
63 Degree Warmth Before the Cold Arrives
Pittsburgh residents will enjoy several relatively mild November afternoons before the pattern changes.
Monday, Nov. 9, brings mostly cloudy skies and highs near 57 degrees.
Tuesday looks especially pleasant, with sunshine and temperatures reaching approximately 63 degrees.
Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, remains mild, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 61 degrees.
These conditions provide an opportunity to finish yard cleanup, secure outdoor decorations and prepare vehicles for colder weather.
However, the comfortable stretch will begin breaking down Wednesday night.
Rain Chances Climb to 60% Thursday
Rain chances increase to 30% after 1 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures near 41 degrees.
By Thursday afternoon, rain becomes likely, with precipitation chances reaching 60%.
Temperatures will only reach approximately 53 degrees, roughly 10 degrees cooler than Tuesday's expected high.
Rain could affect travel along Interstate 376, Interstate 79 and Interstate 279.
Drivers should prepare for wet pavement and changing visibility during periods of precipitation.
Thursday night brings another 50% chance of rain as temperatures fall near 34 degrees.
First Snowflakes Possible Friday, Nov. 13
Friday brings the week's most interesting weather development.
The National Weather Service specifically forecasts a chance of rain and snow, with afternoon temperatures reaching approximately 47 degrees.
The colder air could support a brief period of wet snowflakes if precipitation and sufficiently low temperatures overlap.
However, the forecast does not specify snowfall accumulation or confirm that snow will reach every neighborhood.
Friday night's temperatures could fall near 31 degrees, potentially producing freezing conditions across the Pittsburgh area.
Residents should watch for locally slick surfaces if moisture remains when temperatures drop below freezing.
