Pittsburgh, PA – A Frost Advisory is in effect for parts of western Pennsylvania and the surrounding region Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, as temperatures within the advisory area are expected to fall into the mid to upper 30s.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the advisory runs from midnight through 9 a.m. Tuesday. The agency issued the advisory early Monday and urged residents in affected areas to protect sensitive outdoor vegetation.
The NWS graphic shows the Frost Advisory covering areas primarily east and northeast of Pittsburgh, including communities around Clarion, Punxsutawney, Indiana and Latrobe. Additional advisory areas extend south into the higher terrain of West Virginia. Pittsburgh itself is not shown within the shaded Frost Advisory area on the agency's map.
Frost can develop even when reported air temperatures remain above 32 degrees, particularly where surfaces cool efficiently overnight. The NWS expects temperatures in the advisory area to reach the mid to upper 30s.
Residents covered by the advisory should take steps Monday evening to protect sensitive plants and other vegetation vulnerable to frost.
The advisory is scheduled to expire at 9 a.m. Tuesday as temperatures begin recovering after sunrise. Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts and any changes to the advisory area through Tuesday morning.
