Pittsburgh, PA – September finished warmer than normal across the Pittsburgh weather service region, while rainfall also ran above normal at nearly every major climate site.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, all five climate sites in its September 2026 summary recorded above normal average temperatures. Pittsburgh averaged 68.6 degrees, 3.7 degrees above normal.
Pittsburgh’s average high was 76.9 degrees, 1.8 degrees above normal, while its average low of 60.3 degrees was 5.5 degrees above normal and ranked as the 10th warmest September average low on record. Rainfall totaled 5.03 inches, 1.73 inches above normal.
Wheeling, West Virginia, received 5.12 inches of rain, 1.91 inches above normal. Its average low of 59.3 degrees was 4.2 degrees above normal and ranked third warmest on record for September.
Morgantown averaged 68.9 degrees, 2.4 degrees above normal, and recorded 4.88 inches of precipitation, 1.47 inches above normal.
In Ohio, Zanesville averaged 68.9 degrees, 3 degrees above normal. Its average low of 59.3 degrees ranked seventh warmest on record, while rainfall reached 4.63 inches, 1.51 inches above normal.
New Philadelphia was the only site in the summary with below normal precipitation, though only slightly. It received 2.93 inches, 0.04 inches below normal. Its overall average temperature of 67.6 degrees ranked eighth warmest on record, while the average low of 58 degrees ranked second warmest.
Monthly highs ranged from 91 to 93 degrees across the five sites, with each location recording its coldest temperature Sept. 25.
