Pittsburgh, PA – Temperatures are expected to rebound sharply across the Pittsburgh area Wednesday, Oct. 7, with afternoon highs climbing into the lower 70s after a notably cool Tuesday.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh said Wednesday’s expected highs are roughly 5 to 8 degrees above normal for this time of year. Pittsburgh is forecast to reach about 72 degrees, with readings generally in the lower to middle 70s across much of western Pennsylvania and nearby parts of Ohio and West Virginia.
The warmup follows a much cooler Oct. 6. Pittsburgh International Airport recorded a high of just 63 degrees Tuesday, 4 degrees below the normal high of 67. The low fell to 38 degrees, 9 degrees below the normal low of 47, according to the NWS climate report.
Tuesday’s average temperature of 51 degrees was 6 degrees below normal.
That makes Wednesday’s expected high near 72 about 9 degrees warmer than Tuesday’s observed high. The change is even more pronounced from Wednesday morning conditions into the afternoon, as the region moves quickly from chilly early autumn temperatures back to above normal warmth.
Some locations are forecast to be warmer than Pittsburgh. The NWS map shows expected highs around 74 degrees in Washington and Wheeling, 75 in Zanesville and Martinsville, and 76 near Morgantown. Cooler readings are expected in the higher terrain and farther north, including about 66 at Davis and 69 near Oil City.
No precipitation fell at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. October precipitation through Oct. 6 stood at 0.07 inches, 0.48 inches below normal.
Readers should expect the most noticeable weather change Wednesday to be the rapid temperature rebound, with afternoon readings running several degrees above early October normals.
