Pittsburgh, PA – The remnants of Hurricane Isaias are expected to bring soaking rainfall and gusty winds to southwestern Pennsylvania this weekend, with rain arriving Saturday night, Oct. 10, and continuing into Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the latest forecast issued Friday afternoon shows little change in the expected timing or impacts as the tropical system moves toward the region.
Rainfall totals of 1.1 to 1.6 inches are most likely across the forecast area through 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, with the highest amounts expected in eastern Ohio.
Rain could begin across portions of eastern Ohio and southwestern Pennsylvania late Saturday night, spreading farther east into western Pennsylvania during the early morning hours Sunday.
Communities including Pittsburgh, Washington, Butler, Indiana and surrounding areas are expected to experience periods of rain as the remnants move through.
Wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph will be common Sunday morning, according to the weather service. Stronger gusts of 35 to 45 mph are possible in and near higher terrain, where elevated locations could experience more significant wind impacts.
Despite the expected rainfall, the NWS currently assesses the overall flash flooding risk as low.
However, localized street flooding remains possible, particularly where storm drains become clogged with fallen leaves or other debris.
The combination of steady rainfall and gusty conditions could create changing weather conditions across the region Sunday, especially in higher elevations.
The forecast does not indicate widespread flash flooding, and the greatest rainfall amounts are not expected to affect every community equally.
Residents should continue monitoring updated National Weather Service forecasts as the remnants of Isaias approach Saturday night.
Rain is expected to continue through Sunday night, with the system's primary impacts focused on soaking rainfall, gusty winds and isolated drainage related flooding concerns.
