Pittsburgh, PA – A 27 year old McKeesport man wanted after failing to appear for sentencing in a firearms case was taken into custody Monday after authorities surrounded a residence on Pittsburgh's North Side.
According to the Allegheny County Sheriff 's Office, Matthew White pleaded guilty in May in a case involving two firearms charges. He was scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 2 but allegedly failed to appear in court.
A bench warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
Sheriff's detectives and Pittsburgh police developed information Monday indicating White was inside a residence on Penfort Street on the city's North Side, according to the sheriff's office.
Detectives from the sheriff's office and Pittsburgh police officers went to the location and established a perimeter around the residence.
Authorities said White surrendered a short time later and was taken into custody without incident. He was then transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
The sheriff's office did not provide additional information about the underlying firearms case or what sentence White could face following his earlier guilty plea.
The arrest ended a search that began after White allegedly missed his scheduled sentencing hearing last month.
No injuries or additional arrests were reported during Monday's operation.
Authorities also did not immediately announce when White will return to court following his arrest on the bench warrant. Court proceedings will determine the next steps in the case.
