PHILADELPHIA, PA – Philadelphia residents will experience a dramatic temperature swing heading into the weekend, with Friday's afternoon warmth reaching 74 degrees before overnight temperatures plunge toward 40 degrees by Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia, Friday will bring patchy fog before 8 a.m., followed by sunshine and an afternoon high near 74 degrees. Southwest winds of 5 to 15 mph will shift northwest during the morning, signaling a transition toward cooler conditions.
The change will become noticeable Friday night as temperatures drop to around 43 degrees under mostly clear skies, with northwest winds of 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday Night Could Be the Coldest Stretch
Saturday will remain sunny, but temperatures will reach only 63 degrees, an 11 degree drop from Friday's forecast high.
By Saturday night, temperatures are expected to fall to approximately 40 degrees, creating a 34 degree difference between Friday afternoon's high and the weekend's coldest forecast temperature.
Residents planning outdoor activities, evening events or early morning travel should prepare for significantly cooler conditions, particularly after sunset.
Sunday will bring mostly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching around 64 degrees. Overnight lows will remain chilly, falling to approximately 43 degrees.
Warmer Temperatures Return Next Week
The cooldown will not last long.
Monday is expected to bring partly sunny skies and a high near 67 degrees, followed by a warmer Tuesday with mostly sunny conditions and temperatures reaching 71 degrees.
Wednesday could climb to approximately 72 degrees before rain chances increase later in the week.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 40% chance of showers Wednesday night, increasing to 60% Thursday.
For Philadelphia and surrounding communities across southeastern Pennsylvania, the biggest immediate weather concern is the sharp difference between warm afternoons and chilly overnight temperatures.
Residents should dress in layers and check updated forecasts before weekend travel.
