Philadelphia, PA – Residents across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware face a dramatic temperature swing from Tuesday, October 13, through Sunday, October 18, as summerlike warmth gives way to chilly weekend conditions, with frost and potentially freezing temperatures developing in some communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, temperatures will climb into the 70s and 80s Tuesday and Wednesday before two cold fronts bring significant changes to the region.
Wednesday, October 14, could be the warmest day of the week, with forecast highs reaching 83 degrees in Philadelphia, 85 degrees in Easton and Dover, Delaware, and 86 degrees in Georgetown, Delaware.
Other communities, including Trenton, New Jersey, and Reading, Pennsylvania, could reach the lower 80s.
The first cold front is expected Wednesday night, bringing a noticeable cooldown Thursday, October 15. Afternoon temperatures will generally remain in the 60s across much of the region.
Another warm front arrives Friday, October 16, allowing temperatures to rebound into the 70s before a stronger cold front moves through Friday night.
The most significant temperature change arrives Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18.
Saturday afternoon temperatures are expected to struggle into the 40s and 50s across much of the region.
By early Sunday, temperatures could fall into the 30s, particularly in inland portions of Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey.
Forecast temperatures near Mount Pocono could approach freezing, while locations around Allentown and Hackettstown may also experience conditions favorable for frost.
Philadelphia and nearby urban communities are expected to remain somewhat warmer, although the temperature drop will still be noticeable.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should prepare for possible frost Saturday night into Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service emphasized that frost and freeze concerns could develop across several locations, making updated forecasts especially important as the weekend approaches.
