Erie, PA – Communities along Lake Erie in northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania could experience an early taste of winter ahead of Thanksgiving as colder temperatures arrive late next week, bringing the possibility of the season's first snowflakes in some locations.
According to National Weather Service forecasts available Saturday, Nov. 7, the Erie, Pennsylvania, area could see rain mixing with snow Thursday night, Nov. 12, and Friday, Nov. 13, as temperatures fall below freezing.
Colder Air Moves Toward Lake Erie
With Thanksgiving approaching Nov. 26, the developing weather pattern signals another opportunity for early season winter conditions across the southern Lake Erie shoreline.
Temperatures will remain relatively mild early in the week, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 50s and lower 60s in parts of the region.
However, colder air is expected to arrive later in the week.
Near Erie, temperatures could drop to approximately 26 degrees Thursday night, accompanied by a 40% chance of rain and snow.
Friday's forecast includes another 40% chance of mixed precipitation, with daytime temperatures reaching around 43 degrees.
Northeastern Ohio and Northwestern Pennsylvania
The colder pattern could also affect communities along Interstate 90, including Ashtabula and Conneaut, Ohio, and Erie County, Pennsylvania.
These communities sit along Lake Erie's southern shoreline, where colder air moving across relatively warmer lake waters can sometimes enhance snowfall.
However, the current forecast does not establish a lake effect snow event, and precipitation chances may vary between northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania.
Will Snow Accumulate Before Thanksgiving?
At this stage, significant snowfall accumulation has not been indicated in the available forecast.
The timing of precipitation and temperatures will determine whether communities experience rain, wet snow or a mixture.
Drivers traveling Interstate 90 and other roads near Lake Erie should monitor changing conditions, especially overnight when temperatures could fall below freezing.
Residents are encouraged to follow updated National Weather Service forecasts as the region approaches its next opportunity for early season snow.
