Erie, PA – Parts of the northern Mid Atlantic could experience an early taste of winter well ahead of Thanksgiving as colder temperatures move into the region late next week, bringing the possibility of rain mixing with snow Thursday night, Nov. 12, into Friday, Nov. 13.
According to National Weather Service forecasts available Saturday, Nov. 7, portions of Pennsylvania and neighboring New York could see temperatures fall below freezing as precipitation chances increase, potentially allowing some communities to experience their first snowflakes of the season.
Colder Air Arrives Before Thanksgiving
With Thanksgiving approaching Thursday, Nov. 26, the developing weather pattern could mark one of the first opportunities for wintry precipitation across parts of the northern Mid Atlantic this November.
Temperatures will remain relatively mild early in the week, with afternoon highs reaching the 50s and lower 60s in several communities.
However, colder conditions are expected later in the week.
In Erie, Pennsylvania, overnight temperatures could fall to around 26 degrees Thursday night, with a 40% chance of rain and snow. Friday brings another 40% precipitation chance, with highs near 43 degrees.
Pennsylvania and New York Face Snow Potential
Farther east, Binghamton, New York, could experience temperatures near 31 degrees Thursday night, accompanied by a 40% chance of rain and snow.
Albany, New York, could see overnight lows near 28 degrees, followed by a 30% chance of mixed precipitation Friday.
These forecasts suggest that northern and higher elevation communities may have better opportunities for early season snow than warmer locations farther south.
However, snowfall is not currently established across the broader Mid Atlantic, including Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Will Snow Accumulate Before Thanksgiving?
At this stage, significant snowfall accumulation has not been indicated in the available forecasts.
The timing of precipitation, surface temperatures and the arrival of colder air will determine whether communities experience rain, wet snow or a mixture.
Motorists traveling across northern Pennsylvania and nearby higher elevations should monitor conditions, particularly during overnight and early morning hours when temperatures could fall below freezing.
Residents should continue following National Weather Service updates as the potential for early season snow becomes clearer.
