Portland, OR – A significant change in the weather pattern is heading toward northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, with widespread rainfall expected Sunday, October 25, through Tuesday, October 27. After an unusually dry October, some communities could receive up to 1.5 inches of rain as a series of Pacific weather systems moves into the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, rainfall will first reach the Oregon and Washington coasts late Saturday night before spreading inland across the Willamette Valley Sunday morning.
Forecasters expect most locations to receive approximately 0.75 to 1.50 inches of rainfall through Tuesday, although amounts will vary by location.
The latest precipitation projections indicate Astoria could receive approximately 0.91 inches, while Florence may see around 1.33 inches. Portland is projected to receive roughly 0.71 inches, with Salem near 0.61 inches and Eugene around 0.81 inches.
Rain is expected to become more widespread Sunday before transitioning into scattered showers Monday and Tuesday.
The return of wet weather could affect travel along Interstate 5, Interstate 84, U.S. Highway 101 and surrounding roads, particularly during periods of steadier rainfall.
Drivers should prepare for wet pavement, reduced visibility and potentially slower travel conditions as the first widespread rainfall of the new weather pattern develops.
Despite the expected rainfall, the National Weather Service emphasizes that flooding concerns are not anticipated, largely because of the region's unusually dry conditions throughout October.
The unsettled pattern is also expected to continue beyond Tuesday, with additional weather systems bringing more opportunities for rain through the remainder of the workweek.
Residents across Portland, Salem, Eugene, Astoria, Vancouver and surrounding communities should keep rain gear available and monitor updated forecasts as rainfall timing and totals become clearer.
