PORTLAND, OR – A Frost Advisory will take effect across portions of northwest and west central Oregon and southwest Washington overnight Friday, with temperatures expected to fall to 36 degrees or lower by Saturday morning, potentially damaging sensitive outdoor plants.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, the advisory begins at midnight Saturday, Oct. 31, and continues until 9 a.m. as colder overnight conditions increase the potential for frost formation.
The advisory covers communities across the Portland metropolitan area, including Gresham, Oregon City, Hillsboro area communities, Lake Oswego and surrounding locations.
Additional affected areas include portions of Clatsop, Tillamook, Marion and Linn counties, along with southwest Washington communities such as Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Longview and Kelso.
Frost Could Damage Outdoor Plants The National Weather Service warns that temperatures of 36 degrees or lower could produce frost, especially in locations where overnight cooling allows temperatures near the ground to fall further.
Sensitive outdoor vegetation could be damaged or killed if left uncovered.
Residents are encouraged to move vulnerable potted plants indoors or temporarily cover sensitive vegetation using lightweight cotton fabrics, bedsheets or thin blankets.
Fog Expected Around Portland Portland's localized forecast calls for patchy fog Friday night, with temperatures dropping to approximately 40 degrees.
Fog is expected to continue into Saturday morning, potentially reducing visibility for early travelers.
Saturday's afternoon high should reach approximately 54 degrees, with mostly cloudy conditions following the morning fog.
Patchy fog could return Saturday night and Sunday morning, with overnight temperatures near 41 degrees.
Advisory Ends Saturday Morning The Frost Advisory is scheduled to expire at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The National Weather Service notes that seasonal frost and freeze advisories will no longer be issued beginning in November for several regional growing zones.
Residents should continue monitoring local forecasts and protecting cold sensitive vegetation even after the advisory expires.
