Moro, OR – A discovery on remote private property in northern Oregon has prompted an investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies after skeletal remains were reported in the southern portion of Sherman County.
According to the Sherman County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded Saturday, October 10, to a report of skeletal remains discovered on private property in a remote area of the county.
Authorities have not publicly identified the remains or released information about how long they may have been at the location.
Following the discovery, the Columbia Gorge Major Crimes Team was activated and responded to assist with the investigation.
Investigators collected the remains, which are being submitted to the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office for further analysis.
The medical examiner's findings could help authorities establish identifying information and determine whether additional investigative steps are necessary.
Officials have not announced a cause or manner of death, and the circumstances surrounding the discovery remain unclear.
The Sheriff's Office has also not disclosed the precise location of the property beyond identifying it as being in southern Sherman County.
Deputy Kyle Burnett is working alongside the Columbia Gorge Major Crimes Team and serving as the local point of contact for the investigation.
Authorities are encouraging anyone who may have information relevant to the discovery to contact Burnett directly at kburnett@shermancountyorg.gov .
The discovery has drawn a coordinated investigative response, although officials have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
The involvement of a major crimes team does not, by itself, establish that a crime occurred.
Investigators have not announced any arrests or identified suspects in connection with the case.
The Sherman County Sheriff's Office said additional information will be released as it becomes available and when appropriate.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities await further examination of the remains.
