Medford, OR – Halloween trick or treaters across Southern Oregon and Northern California may need rain jackets and umbrellas Saturday, October 31, as forecasters warn that scattered showers could affect outdoor activities throughout the afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, confidence is highest that rain will affect Northern California, although the potential for light showers has also increased across Southern Oregon's western valleys.
Halloween Rain Chances Reach 70% in Northern California
Communities including Yreka, Mount Shasta City and Alturas face rain chances between 40% and 60% Saturday afternoon, increasing to 50% to 70% during the early and late evening.
Temperatures across these areas are expected to fall from the middle to upper 40s during the afternoon into the upper 30s and lower 40s by late evening.
Farther north, Medford, Roseburg and Grants Pass could see rain chances between 30% and 60% during peak trick or treating hours from 5 to 8 p.m.
Temperatures in the western valleys will generally range from 48 to 52 degrees early in the evening before cooling into the 40s later Saturday night.
Cooler Conditions Expected in Higher Elevations
Across the eastern Cascades, including Klamath Falls, Lakeview and Chemult, rain chances range from 30% to 60% during Halloween evening.
Temperatures could drop into the 32 to 38 degree range by 8 to 11 p.m., making conditions noticeably colder for families outdoors.
Coastal communities, including Brookings, North Bend and Gold Beach, face somewhat lower rain chances, generally between 20% and 40% during the early evening.
Although showers remain possible, the forecast does not indicate that every community will experience continuous rainfall.
Families should monitor updated local forecasts before heading out Saturday, especially in Northern California, where confidence in precipitation is highest.
