Bend, OR – Residents across Central Oregon are facing a freezing start to Saturday as temperatures drop as low as 28 degrees, potentially damaging outdoor plumbing, gardens and sensitive vegetation. A Freeze Warning remains in effect through midmorning, with communities including Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville under the alert.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, Oregon, the Freeze Warning is in effect from 1 a.m. until 10 a.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 10 , as sub freezing temperatures affect portions of Central Oregon.
Forecasters warn that temperatures could fall to 28 degrees, bringing frost and freeze conditions capable of killing crops and other sensitive plants. Unprotected outdoor plumbing could also sustain damage if exposed to the cold.
The warning covers a broad section of Central Oregon, including communities throughout the Bend and Redmond areas, along with Madras and Prineville.
Homeowners, gardeners and agricultural operations are among those facing the greatest potential impacts. Tender vegetation left outdoors without protection may suffer damage, while exposed water lines and outdoor faucets could be vulnerable during freezing conditions.
Residents are encouraged to move potted plants indoors when possible, cover sensitive vegetation and ensure outdoor plumbing is protected against freezing temperatures.
Garden hoses should also be disconnected from exterior faucets, particularly where exposed water lines may be susceptible to the cold.
Although temperatures are expected to vary by location, the National Weather Service indicates that freezing conditions could persist into Saturday morning before temperatures recover.
The warning is scheduled to expire at 10 a.m. PDT Saturday , though residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts for any changes or additional cold weather alerts.
The National Weather Service urges residents to take steps to protect tender plants from the cold, emphasizing the potential for damage to crops and other sensitive vegetation.
