Bend, OR – Students returning to public schools in Bend on Wednesday, Oct. 21, were greeted by an increased police presence as authorities continue investigating last week's shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School.
According to the Bend Police Department , dozens of officers were stationed at public schools Wednesday morning to welcome students back to their classrooms following the Oct. 15 incident.
Police Increase Presence Across Bend Schools
Officers were scheduled to return at the end of the school day, with additional police visibility expected around local schools over the coming days and weeks.
The department said the increased presence is intended to help students, families and school employees feel more comfortable during a difficult period.
Police are also coordinating with Bend La Pine Schools as district officials evaluate school safety protocols and daily operations.
The department has not indicated that the additional security measures are connected to a newly identified threat.
Detectives Continue Examining Evidence
Meanwhile, investigators are continuing their examination of evidence related to the Silver Rail Elementary School shooting.
