Tulsa, OK – Millions of residents across eastern Oklahoma and portions of western Arkansas should remain weather aware Monday night, Nov. 2, as a tornado watch remains in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday, bringing the possibility of overnight tornadoes and damaging winds reaching 70 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the tornado watch covers eastern Oklahoma and portions of western Arkansas along the Interstate 49 corridor, including areas near Tulsa, Muskogee, McAlester, Fayetteville and Fort Smith.
Forecasters warn that a couple of tornadoes are possible, along with severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail.
Overnight Tornado Threat Continues Through 3 AM
The greatest concern is that severe weather could develop while many residents are sleeping, potentially leaving little time to react if a tornado warning is issued.
Wind gusts reaching 70 mph could damage trees, power lines and structures, while hail may cause additional property damage.
The National Weather Service urges residents to have multiple reliable ways to receive weather warnings, including methods capable of waking them overnight.
Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas at Risk
Communities across the watch area include Tulsa, Bartlesville, Okmulgee, Tahlequah, Muskogee and McAlester in Oklahoma, along with Fayetteville and Fort Smith in Arkansas.
Conditions may change quickly as thunderstorms move across the region overnight.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornado development. It does not mean a tornado has been confirmed.
What Residents Should Do Tonight
Residents should identify a safe shelter location before going to bed, preferably a basement or small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
Keep phones charged, enable emergency alerts and avoid relying solely on outdoor warning sirens.
If a tornado warning is issued for your location, move immediately to shelter and stay away from windows.
The tornado watch is scheduled to remain in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 , unless updated or canceled earlier.
