OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Oklahoma could carry warmer than normal weather into the beginning of November, with a federal outlook favoring above average temperatures across the state during Oct. 26–Nov. 1. For Oklahoma City and surrounding central Oklahoma communities, the extended warmth signal follows a week expected to bring sunshine and afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper 70s.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, the eight to 14 day outlook issued Sunday, Oct. 18, favors above normal average temperatures across Oklahoma during Oct. 26–Nov. 1. The state sits within a broad region of elevated warmth probabilities stretching across the southern Plains, although the strongest temperature signals are centered farther east.
Oklahoma Warmth Could Extend Into November Central Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond and Moore, lies within an area showing approximately a 60%–70% probability of above normal temperatures.
Eastern Oklahoma, including Tulsa, Muskogee and communities closer to the Arkansas border, falls within a similarly strong warm temperature pattern.
Western Oklahoma, including Weatherford, Elk City and Woodward, also favors above normal temperatures, although the signal gradually weakens toward the Texas Panhandle and western High Plains.
The Oklahoma Panhandle remains within the warmer than normal outlook, but probabilities are somewhat lower than across central and eastern portions of the state.
The pattern is noteworthy because average temperatures normally decline steadily across Oklahoma as October transitions into November.
Although warm afternoons are still possible during late fall, overnight temperatures typically become cooler as daylight hours shorten.
A warmer than normal outlook suggests that seasonal cooling could be less pronounced during the seven day period, but it does not guarantee temperatures in the 70s or 80s every day.
Oklahoma City Forecast Shows Upper 70s This Week Before the extended outlook begins, the National Weather Service forecast for Oklahoma City indicates several days of sunshine and increasingly mild afternoon temperatures.
Monday, Oct. 19, is expected to be sunny with a high near 70 degrees, followed by mostly sunny conditions and a high around 72 Tuesday.
Wednesday could reach approximately 76 degrees, with Thursday climbing to around 78.
Friday and Saturday are also expected to reach near 78 degrees, followed by a high around 76 Sunday.
Overnight temperatures are forecast to gradually moderate, with lows near 54 Monday night, 55 Tuesday night and 58 Wednesday night.
Thursday night could remain around 61 degrees, while Friday night may stay near 62.
At Will Rogers World Airport, the supplied observation showed 50 degrees shortly before 3 a.m. Monday.
The forecast also introduces a 20% chance of showers Saturday night, followed by partly sunny conditions Sunday.
These daily temperatures apply to Oct. 19–25 and are separate from NOAA's Oct. 26–Nov. 1 outlook.
Precipitation Outlook Favors Wetter Conditions While temperatures are favored to average above normal, NOAA's precipitation outlook indicates a tendency toward above normal precipitation across Oklahoma.
Oklahoma City and much of central Oklahoma generally fall within an area showing approximately a 33%–40% probability of above normal precipitation.
Western Oklahoma, including portions of the Panhandle and southwestern counties, also favors above normal precipitation, with some areas showing a somewhat stronger wet signal.
Eastern Oklahoma remains within the broader above normal precipitation region.
This means a milder than normal November transition would not necessarily bring consistently dry weather.
Updated National Weather Service forecasts will help determine whether the extended warmth produces additional mild afternoons, warmer nights or a more unsettled weather pattern.
