Lancaster, OH – An explosion inside a battery recycling and materials recovery facility in Fairfield County caused significant damage Thursday afternoon, but officials said no employees were injured and the resulting fire has been contained.
According to the Fairfield County Emergency Management Agency, the explosion occurred inside the 295 building at Cirba Solutions, located at 265 Quarry Road in Lancaster. The building was evacuated following the incident.
Officials said the explosion caused significant damage to machinery, the building's roof and exterior equipment. The Lancaster Fire Department responded and contained the fire.
As of 2:45 p.m. Thursday, officials reported there was no active fire and no additional smoke was being released from the facility. Utilities serving the affected building had also been shut down.
Emergency management officials said there was no danger to the public following the incident. Quarry Road, which had been affected by the emergency response, has reopened.
Cirba Solutions operates a battery recycling and materials recovery facility at the site. Authorities had not provided additional details about what caused the explosion in the information available Thursday afternoon.
The Fairfield County Sheriff 's Office also shared the emergency management agency's safety update Thursday.
