Columbus, OH – Residents across portions of central Ohio should prepare for a chilly Wednesday night, Oct. 21, as temperatures fall into the mid 30s and conditions become favorable for frost formation through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, a Frost Advisory is in effect for portions of central Ohio, with clear skies and calm winds expected to allow temperatures to drop overnight.
Temperatures Could Fall Near Freezing
Forecasters expect overnight temperatures across the region to range from the mid 30s to lower 40s, with some communities experiencing colder conditions than others.
The latest National Weather Service temperature outlook shows Logan dropping to approximately 34 degrees, while Newark could reach 35 degrees.
Chillicothe is forecast to fall near 38 degrees, while Columbus is expected to remain closer to 41 degrees.
Other communities, including Sidney and Celina, could experience lows near 39 degrees.
Despite some locations remaining above freezing, frost can still develop on exposed surfaces when ground level temperatures become sufficiently cold.
Frost Could Damage Sensitive Outdoor Plants
The National Weather Service warns that calm conditions and clear skies will support frost formation in portions of central Ohio.
Residents with sensitive outdoor vegetation should take precautions before temperatures begin falling Wednesday evening.
Potted plants may need to be moved indoors, while vulnerable garden plants can be covered with appropriate protective materials.
Frost exposure can damage tender vegetation, particularly plants that have not yet been protected from colder autumn temperatures.
Chilly Conditions Continue Into Thursday Morning
The forecast temperature map covers Wednesday evening through 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.
The coldest conditions are expected overnight and around sunrise, when frost formation is most likely.
Residents traveling early Thursday should also be prepared for chilly temperatures, particularly in rural and low lying locations.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated forecasts and take steps to protect sensitive outdoor plants before nightfall.
