Cleveland, OH – Thanksgiving travelers across Ohio may have to keep an eye on the possibility of early season snow, with a long range outlook suggesting flurries or scattered snow showers could develop around the holiday. Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati are among the major population centers where residents may be watching conditions ahead of Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 26.
According to the Farmers' Almanac's Oct. 19 update, its Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Midwest forecast region could experience colder, more winterlike conditions from Monday, Nov. 23, through Thursday, Nov. 26. The region includes Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Kentucky.
The publication mentions scattered snow showers or flurries and possible brief travel slowdowns where snow develops. However, it does not provide specific snowfall amounts, accumulation probabilities or forecasts for individual Ohio cities.
Ohio's geography could make a difference. Cleveland and other communities near Lake Erie can experience lake effect snowfall when cold air passes over relatively warmer lake waters. Farther inland, Columbus and Cincinnati generally have different early season snowfall patterns.
That means snow affecting northeastern Ohio would not necessarily extend into central or southwestern portions of the state.
NOAA's Oct. 15 November outlook favors above normal temperatures across the Great Lakes, while below normal precipitation is favored in parts of the region. Those monthly probabilities do not eliminate the possibility of individual cold spells or snow showers.
For Thanksgiving travelers using I 71 between Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, or I 90 along Lake Erie, changing weather conditions could become important if snow develops. No specific highway disruptions have been forecast by the Almanac.
Could Ohio see snow before Thanksgiving 2026? Yes, but the regional projection does not establish whether Cleveland, Columbus or Cincinnati will receive snow during the holiday period.
Travelers should consult updated National Weather Service forecasts closer to departure for reliable information about snowfall, timing and potential road conditions.
