Cleveland, OH – Residents across northern and eastern Ohio should prepare for a significant change in weather as widespread rain develops overnight Saturday, October 10, and continues into Sunday, bringing the potential for more than an inch of rainfall in several eastern communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, rain chances will increase late Saturday evening into early Sunday as a weather system moves north into the Ohio Valley. Eastern Ohio is expected to experience the greatest potential for heavier rainfall.
The agency's latest forecast shows an 84% probability of receiving at least one inch of rain near Youngstown through Sunday evening. Canton follows closely at 83%, while Coshocton has an 81% chance and Cadiz stands at 77%.
Akron has a 68% probability of reaching the one inch threshold, while the chance drops to 59% near Lodi and 43% around Mansfield.
Closer to Lake Erie, rainfall totals are expected to be less substantial. Cleveland has a 30% chance of receiving at least one inch, compared with 8% in Toledo.
Rain probabilities increase sharply overnight, with several communities forecast to reach 90% to 100% chances of precipitation Sunday morning.
The widespread rainfall could create wet highways, reduced visibility and slower travel conditions along major routes, including Interstate 77, Interstate 80 and Interstate 90.
Drivers should allow additional travel time, particularly during periods of heavier rainfall.
Although the forecast highlights substantial rainfall potential, the supplied outlook does not establish a widespread flash flooding threat.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts as rainfall develops Saturday night and continues through Sunday.
