Cleveland, OH – Another chilly night is approaching northern and northeastern Ohio on Sunday, October 18, with temperatures expected to fall into the 30s across several inland communities. Residents may see another round of frost by early Monday morning, particularly in areas farther from Lake Erie.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, temperatures will recover from a frosty Sunday morning into the upper 50s and lower 60s during the afternoon before dropping again overnight.
Temperatures could fall as low as 34 degrees
The latest forecast shows overnight lows reaching approximately 34 degrees in Youngstown, 35 degrees in Akron and 36 degrees in Canton.
Farther west, Mansfield could fall to 37 degrees, while Findlay may reach 37 degrees and Toledo approximately 38 degrees.
Communities closer to Lake Erie are expected to remain somewhat warmer, with Cleveland and Ashtabula near 41 degrees and Erie, Pennsylvania, around 42 degrees.
Forecasters indicate that inland locations, especially farther east, have the greatest potential for another round of frost.
Sunny Sunday before another cold night
Sunday afternoon will bring mostly sunny skies and highs near or slightly above 60 degrees across much of the region.
Cleveland is forecast to reach approximately 62 degrees, while Akron, Canton and Youngstown are expected to reach around 60 to 61 degrees.
The pleasant afternoon temperatures could provide a brief break from the colder overnight conditions.
Residents encouraged to protect sensitive plants
With another chilly night ahead, homeowners and gardeners should consider bringing vulnerable potted plants indoors or covering sensitive outdoor vegetation.
Frost can develop even when official air temperatures remain slightly above freezing, especially in sheltered or low lying locations.
The National Weather Service expects Sunday night's temperatures to be slightly milder than Saturday night's, although frost remains possible across inland areas.
