CLEVELAND, OH – A sharp temperature drop is expected across northeast Ohio this weekend, with Cleveland temperatures falling from the lower 80s Tuesday to the lower 50s Saturday as a colder weather pattern develops across the Great Lakes and eastern United States Oct. 17 21.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, temperatures could reach 83 degrees Tuesday before falling to a high near 52 Saturday. Overnight lows are forecast around 40 degrees Saturday night, bringing a noticeably colder feel to communities along Lake Erie.
NOAA's Climate Prediction Center also favors below normal temperatures across northeast Ohio during Oct. 17 21, with probabilities generally reaching 40 50% across the region. The outlook is part of a broader pattern favoring colder than average conditions from the Great Lakes into the Northeast.
The transition begins after several days of warm October weather.
Tuesday is expected to bring sunshine and a high near 83 degrees, with southwest wind gusts reaching 28 mph. Showers become likely Wednesday, when temperatures are forecast to reach 72 degrees and precipitation chances increase to 70%.
Additional showers are possible Thursday before rain becomes likely Thursday night and Friday.
Friday's high is forecast near 63 degrees, with breezy conditions and a 70% chance of showers. Temperatures could fall to around 42 Friday night.
By Saturday, partly sunny and breezy conditions are expected, with a high near 52 degrees. Saturday night could bring a low around 40.
The arrival of colder air could eventually create opportunities for early season lake effect rain or snow showers if sufficient moisture and favorable atmospheric conditions develop. However, the current Cleveland forecast does not include snow, and NOAA's outlook does not establish specific snowfall probabilities.
The Climate Prediction Center also favors below normal precipitation across northeast Ohio Oct. 17 21, meaning colder conditions do not necessarily signal widespread precipitation.
Cleveland residents should prepare for a 31 degree decline in daytime highs between Tuesday and Saturday, with colder than normal temperatures favored through Oct. 21.
