CLEVELAND, OH – Showers will spread east across northern Ohio Thursday evening, Oct. 15, before a strong cold front brings falling temperatures and wind gusts up to 40 mph Friday, with a slight chance of thunderstorms overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, scattered showers are expected to move from west to east Thursday evening, reaching northwestern Pennsylvania around midnight.
Forecasters say thunderstorms are possible overnight, although the overall chance remains slight. If thunderstorms develop, a few stronger wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph could occur late Thursday evening.
The stronger thunderstorm gusts are a conditional threat and are separate from the widespread winds expected behind the approaching cold front.
The weather service expects the cold front to cross the region between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday, bringing a shift to westerly winds.
Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected as the front moves through northern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania.
Temperatures will fall throughout Friday as colder air moves into the region, with occasional showers continuing during the day.
The changing conditions could affect outdoor activities, particularly where gusty winds accompany passing showers.
Residents should secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for wet, windy conditions during Friday's morning and afternoon hours.
Motorists should also remain alert for sudden wind gusts, especially on exposed roadways and while driving high profile vehicles.
The National Weather Service has not specified rainfall totals or exact Friday temperatures in the provided forecast.
While thunderstorms remain possible overnight, the primary concern Friday will be the combination of occasional rain, falling temperatures and gusty westerly winds following the frontal passage.
Residents across northern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania should expect showers Thursday night, a cold frontal passage Friday morning and windy, increasingly cooler conditions through Friday afternoon.
