Cleveland, OH – Drivers across Northeast Ohio could encounter areas of fog late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, Oct. 22, with visibility potentially dropping below one mile in some locations as temperatures fall into the upper 30s and lower 40s.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, fog is expected to develop overnight, particularly in communities west of Interstate 77. The forecast, issued Wednesday afternoon, indicates that reduced visibility could affect motorists traveling during the early Thursday morning hours.
Fog Could Affect Thursday Morning Travel
Areas around Cleveland, Akron, Mansfield, Findlay and portions of north central Ohio could experience fog overnight into early Thursday.
The National Weather Service specifically highlighted locations west of I 77 as having the greatest potential for fog development.
Although widespread road closures or major traffic disruptions have not been announced, motorists should prepare for potentially changing visibility conditions.
Drivers encountering fog should reduce speeds, increase following distances and use low beam headlights rather than high beams.
Temperatures Drop Into the 30s
Along with fog concerns, overnight temperatures will fall to near or slightly below seasonal averages.
Forecast lows include approximately 42 degrees in Cleveland, 39 in Akron, 39 in Canton and 42 in Mansfield.
Farther west, Toledo could reach 43 degrees, while Sandusky remains milder near 48 degrees.
Colder conditions are forecast farther east, including 35 degrees near Youngstown and 37 degrees around Meadville, Pennsylvania.
The coolest readings are expected across inland Northeast Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania.
Despite the overnight fog, the National Weather Service expects otherwise dry weather to continue across the region.
Residents traveling early Thursday should check updated conditions before leaving, especially along I 77 and surrounding highways where fog may affect visibility.
