CINCINNATI, OH — Frost covered lawns, freezing temperatures and a renewed threat to sensitive plants are putting the Cincinnati region on alert. Another round of freezing weather approaches Sunday morning before temperatures surge toward 67 degrees by Tuesday.
Residents across southwestern Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana should prepare for a sharp temperature swing over the next several days.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, a Freeze Warning is in effect from midnight Saturday night until 10 a.m. Sunday.
Forecasters expect temperatures between 29 and 33 degrees across portions of the tri state region.
Freeze Warning Brings Sunday Morning Concerns The warning covers communities throughout the Cincinnati metropolitan area, including Hamilton County, Ohio, and neighboring northern Kentucky communities.
Temperatures near or below freezing could damage unprotected plants, gardens and sensitive outdoor plumbing.
A separate Frost Advisory was scheduled to expire at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Saturday afternoon offers temporary relief, with sunshine and temperatures reaching approximately 55 degrees.
However, temperatures fall toward 32 degrees Saturday night, creating favorable conditions for frost formation after 3 a.m. Sunday.
Residents should protect tender vegetation and disconnect vulnerable outdoor hoses before temperatures fall.
Sunday Freeze Gives Way to Warmer Weather Sunday begins with areas of frost before 9 a.m., followed by sunshine and temperatures climbing toward 58 degrees.
Southwest winds increase to 5 10 mph, with occasional gusts reaching 20 mph.
Despite the warmer afternoon, patchy frost could return early Monday as temperatures settle near 38 degrees Sunday night.
Monday brings another significant improvement.
After early frost clears, sunshine pushes temperatures toward 61 degrees.
Tuesday becomes the warmest day, with highs reaching approximately 67 degrees.
That represents a 35 degree increase from Saturday night's projected low near 32 degrees.
Travel and Outdoor Safety Considerations Drivers using Interstate 71, Interstate 75 and Interstate 275 should remain mindful of isolated frosty surfaces during the coldest morning hours.
However, the supplied outlook does not indicate widespread roadway icing or a significant winter storm.
Gardeners face the more immediate concern.
The NWS warns that frost and freezing conditions could kill sensitive vegetation and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
