Akron, OH – With November 2026 approaching, last year's weather records reveal an unusual early season winter milestone across the Akron Canton area. Despite finishing the month with less snowfall than normal, the region's official observation station recorded a new daily snowfall record and tied a separate snow depth record on the same November morning.
According to the National Weather Service's November 2025 climate summary for Akron Canton, November 10 produced 0.6 inches of snowfall, breaking the previous daily record of 0.4 inches established in 1995. The same date also tied the daily snow depth record of zero inches, originally established in 1957.
Two Daily Records on November 10 The November 10 snowfall record is particularly interesting because the accumulation was relatively small.
Just 0.6 inches was enough to establish a new daily snowfall record for that calendar date.
Daily records are measured against historical observations for specific dates, meaning even modest snowfall can become record setting when previous totals were lower.
The National Weather Service also identified a tied daily snow depth record on November 10.
Snowfall and snow depth are different measurements. Snowfall records the amount of new snow, while snow depth measures how much snow remains on the ground at the observation time.
The distinction helps explain why the report lists two separate records associated with the same date.
November 2025 Was Colder and Drier Than Normal Despite the daily snowfall record, Akron Canton finished November with below normal snowfall.
The National Weather Service recorded 1.6 inches of snow during the month, compared with a historical November normal of 3.3 inches.
That represents a deficit of 1.7 inches, or approximately 52% below normal.
The report ranked November 2025 as tied for the 22nd lowest November snowfall total in the station's 89 year snowfall record.
Temperatures were also notably colder than average.
Akron Canton recorded an average temperature of 40.5 degrees, approximately 2.0 degrees below normal.
That made November 2025 the 21st coldest November in the station's 130 year temperature record.
The month's average high was 48.2 degrees, while the average low was 32.8 degrees.
Temperatures fell as low as 22 degrees during the month.
Limited Precipitation Helped Shape the Month Akron Canton recorded just 1.44 inches of precipitation during November 2025, compared with a historical normal of 3.08 inches.
That represents a deficit of 1.64 inches, or approximately 53% below normal.
The National Weather Service ranked the month as the 21st lowest November precipitation total in 130 years.
The combination of colder temperatures and limited precipitation helps illustrate why snowfall remained below average despite the daily record.
Cold air alone does not guarantee accumulating snow. Incoming weather systems must also provide sufficient moisture while atmospheric conditions support frozen precipitation.
What November 2025 Means for 2026 For residents across Akron, Canton, Summit County, Stark County and surrounding Northeast Ohio communities, last November's records offer useful perspective as another winter season approaches.
However, two daily records in November 2025 do not mean additional records are likely in November 2026.
The coming month's snowfall will depend on temperatures, precipitation patterns and the timing of individual weather systems.
Last November demonstrated that even a relatively dry month can produce a daily snowfall record when conditions align.
As November 2026 approaches, will Northeast Ohio experience another unusual start to winter, or will snowfall return closer to historical averages?
