Grand Forks, ND – Residents across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota face several chilly mornings from Tuesday, October 13, through Friday, October 16, as overnight temperatures fall near or below freezing in some locations, raising concerns about frost and potential damage to sensitive outdoor plants.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, much cooler conditions will persist throughout the week, with afternoon temperatures generally reaching the upper 40s to upper 50s. Some areas could briefly climb into the lower 60s Thursday.
Tuesday will remain mostly cloudy, with northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph and afternoon highs between 48 and 56 degrees.
Wednesday, October 14, brings one of the week's colder morning forecasts, with lows ranging from 28 to 36 degrees. Mostly sunny skies and lighter winds should allow afternoon temperatures to recover into the middle to upper 50s.
Thursday, October 15, will bring another chilly morning, with temperatures falling between 30 and 36 degrees. Afternoon highs could reach 52 to 62 degrees, but northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph, may make conditions feel cooler.
By Friday, October 16, overnight lows are expected to return to 28 to 35 degrees, maintaining the potential for frost or freezing conditions. Mostly sunny skies are forecast, with highs between 50 and 55 degrees.
Communities around Grand Forks, Fargo, Devils Lake and nearby northwest Minnesota should prepare for the possibility of frost, although exact temperatures will vary by location.
Residents with sensitive plants should consider bringing containers indoors or covering vulnerable vegetation overnight.
Drivers should also remain alert for gusty crosswinds Thursday, particularly on exposed rural highways.
While sunshine is expected to increase as the week progresses, the recurring overnight cold will remain the primary weather concern.
