Grand Forks, ND – A warm Saturday will give way to a sharp temperature drop across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota Sunday, Oct. 11, as a cold front moves through and brings increasing shower chances.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, dry, mild and breezy conditions are expected to continue through Saturday. Grand Forks is forecast to reach 80 degrees Friday and 76 Saturday before falling to just 57 degrees Sunday.
The temperature swing could be even more pronounced elsewhere. Fargo is forecast to climb to 82 degrees Saturday before reaching only 64 Sunday. Wahpeton could reach 83 Saturday and 67 Sunday, while Devils Lake falls from a forecast 71 Saturday to 52 Sunday.
Before the weekend change, Wednesday will remain partly cloudy with highs from 63 to 72 degrees. Northwest winds of 15 to 30 mph will be gusty before diminishing to 5 to 10 mph Wednesday night.
Thursday will be partly sunny and cooler, with highs from 61 to 68 degrees and west winds around 5 to 15 mph.
Winds turn breezy from the south to southeast Friday and Saturday, helping temperatures surge ahead of the approaching cold front. Some forecast locations could see gusts around 30 mph or higher Saturday.
The NWS expects the cold front to bring much cooler conditions and shower chances beginning Sunday and continuing into Monday. Specific rainfall amounts and probabilities were not provided in the outlook.
Residents should expect Saturday to mark the end of the warm stretch, followed by a substantial cooldown Sunday and increasing chances for showers into Monday.
