Bismarck, ND – A 16 year old girl from Mandan died and several other people were injured following a two vehicle crash Friday night in Bismarck, according to police.
According to the Bismarck Police Department , officers responded around 8:35 p.m. Friday to the intersection of West Main Avenue and Missouri Avenue.
Police said a westbound Infiniti carrying only its driver crashed into the passenger side of a Chevrolet Equinox that was making a left turn from West Main Avenue onto Missouri Avenue.
The Equinox had three occupants at the time of the collision, according to authorities.
Several people suffered injuries in the crash. Police said the 16 year old girl was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Authorities did not immediately release her name as notifications to her family were continuing.
The Bismarck Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating what led to the fatal collision. Based on the initial investigation, police said investigators believe speed was a factor.
Authorities have not released additional details about the extent of the other injuries or identified the remaining people involved.
The investigation remains active, and police said additional information is expected to be released Monday, Oct. 5. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances of the collision while allowing time for the teenager’s family to make necessary notifications.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol also shared the Bismarck Police Department’s announcement Saturday.
No information about citations or criminal charges was included in the initial release.
